Laser-assisted liposuction (Laser Liposuction) is a minor dermatologic surgery that can be done safely with the use of laser energy. It is very effective in removing unwanted body fat.
Laser Liposuction heats unwanted fat; turning it semi-soft and making it easier to remove via liposuction. Just as in traditional liposuction, fluid — a mixture of saline and local anesthetic — is put under the skin in the area where the fat is to be removed.
This procedure is performed in Trinidad and Tobago at SureWay Weight Loss Clinics by Dr. Surelia Reid. SureWay Weight Loss Clinics is the only institution offering this procedure in the English Caribbean.
Laser Liposuction is a one-time only procedure. Prior to having the procedure persons are advised to have a consultation with a medical practitioner.
The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, or sedation anesthesia, depending on the amount of fat that is required to be removed. Since the sensation felt during laser liposuction is very minimal, there is little or no discomfort experienced.
The post-operative recovery period varies from patient to patient and is normally between 1-2 days.
If you have mild to moderate amounts of excess fat and skin laxity, the technique may work for you. If you are about 20 percent overweight or less, you are probably a good candidate. The procedure is not a solution for obesity. If you are in good physical condition and have good muscle tone, you will likely respond very well to laser liposuction because your muscle tone provides underlying support for the tissues allowing you to achieve a leaner appearance with significantly reduced body fat and tighter skin.
Laser liposuction can be used on many areas, including the thighs, abdomen, arms, knees, face, neck and the back fat rolls. It’s also useful in treating gynecomastia (excess male breast tissue), or ”man breasts.”
Since Laser Liposuction is gentler than traditional liposuction, you can minimal bruising and swelling and a speedy recovery.
